How has the EDI program supported your growth and development as a teacher?
Confidence in what we're doing as teachers matters especially for new teachers like me and this can only be built up when teachers are supported and trained in the most pivotal aspects of teaching. The EDI program has supported my growth and development by increasing my confidence in what I do by capacitating me with enough mental and emotional fortitude and equipping me with what I need. The EDI program, through Ms. Johnson, transformed my classroom management problems into opportunities and taught me how to connect to the students, parents, and even administrators. I started the school year weak, afraid, and lost, and I finished it strong and the EDI program has been one of my strongest fortresses moving forward.”
Can you share an example from your classroom where the professional development supported you?
“Parent communication- There are parents that I found hard to connect with. The EDI training taught us ways to communicate with parents, and Ms. Johnson's strategies solved 99.99% of my problems with parents.” -Benjamin Gaspar, International Teacher, Cohort 3, ELA Teacher at DEPSA Junior Academy
“Aggressive Monitoring- Addressing Off-task Students. Aggressive monitoring is one of the most powerful strategies I have learned especially when targeting focused students. The mechanisms of this strategy helped me close my loop (in polling the room) and in making sure that students are on-task and the challenging students are addressed.” -Benjamin Gaspar, International Teacher, Cohort 3, ELA Teacher at DEPSA Junior Academy
How is the EDI professional development impacting you as an educator?
“The training changed my life. It is a rebirth for me to become a new educator in the USA and the EDI training helped me skyrocket my students' potentials by gearing me with real teacher moves that work. From relationship building to teaching fluency and addressing behavioral problems, the EDI training is undoubtedly life-changing!” -Benjamin Gaspar, International Teacher, Cohort 3, ELA Teacher at DEPSA Junior Academy
